Further research of the trees found they all descend from Johannes Martin Stuppy born 1789 in Germany and died 1844 in Germany and Maria K. Kappler 1791-1852 also of Germany. I will refer to Johannes Martin as Martin.</p><p class="ydp9328feebMsoNormal" style="outline: none !important;"><span lang="EN" style="outline: none !important;"> </span>The name is spelled in various records as Stuppy and Stuppi.</p><p class="ydp9328feebMsoNormal" style="outline: none !important;"><span lang="EN" style="outline: none !important;"> </span>The name Stuby and Stuppy are similar sounding and with German accents may have sounded the same. Deeds recorded in the Cambria County courthouse for Andrew Stuby shows his name listed as Stupi, Steube, Steuby and Stube. The census and his obituary spell his name as Stuby. Descendants of Andrew Stuby all use the name Stuby.</p><p class="ydp9328feebMsoNormal" style="outline: none !important;"><span lang="EN" style="outline: none !important;"> </span>Martin Stuppy and his wife Maria had about twelve children. Many of the births are recorded in the baptismal records in Bavaria. Tracking some of the children, the names Andrew and Jacob are used in every generation. Most of their children married and died in Germany. But two came to America in 1853, Elizabeth Stuppy Hoffman and her husband and son. On the same ship was her younger brother Ludwig/Lewis Stuppy.</p><p class="ydp9328feebMsoNormal" style="outline: none !important;"><span lang="EN" style="outline: none !important;"> </span>11 DNA matches descend from these two siblings. One DNA match descends from Martins brother Adam Stuppy. Adam’s 2<span style="font-size: 12px; line-height: 0; outline: none !important; position: relative; top: -0.5em; vertical-align: baseline;">nd</span> Great Grandson came to America in the 1940s and his daughter is a DNA match.</p><p class="ydp9328feebMsoNormal" style="outline: none !important;"><span lang="EN" style="outline: none !important;"> </span>Martin and Maria Stuppy’s oldest son was Andreas Stuppi born 25 May 1810. Is this our Andrew Stuby born in 1810 in Germany – more research is needed. Quick searches of trees on Ancestry and FamilySearch did not produce any more information after his baptism record. Most of his other siblings showed birth, marriage and death dates and descendants.</p><p class="ydp9328feebMsoNormal" style="outline: none !important;"><span lang="EN" style="outline: none !important;"> </span>Tracking Ludwig/Lewis Stuppy in America he is listed on the 1860 census in Wiconisco, Dauphin Co., Pennsylvania as Lewis Stuby along with his wife and two children. In 1870 and after he is listed as Stuppy.</p><p class="ydp9328feebMsoNormal" style="outline: none !important;"><span lang="EN" style="outline: none !important;"> </span>This demonstrates that the name Stuppy and Stuby are sometimes interchanged between both families.</p><div data-setdir="false" dir="ltr" style="outline: none !important;"><h2 style="outline: none !important;"><span lang="EN" style="outline: none !important;">CONCLUSION</span></h2><p class="ydpc1ca33dcMsoNormal" style="outline: none !important;"><span lang="EN" style="outline: none !important;">The parents of Andrew Stuby have not been found. However, it is a possibility that Andreas Stuppy, the son of Johannes Martin Stuppy and Maria K. Kappler is the same person as our Andrew Stuby. The birth year and place of 1810 in Germany are the same. No further information was found on Andreas Stuppy in public family trees, unlike his siblings which had family information listed.</span></p><p class="ydpc1ca33dcMsoNormal" style="outline: none !important;"><span lang="EN" style="outline: none !important;">More research will be needed. But it is certain that Andrew Stuby is somehow related to Martin and Maria K. Kappler Stuppy.</span></p><p class="ydpc1ca33dcMsoNormal" style="outline: none !important;"><span lang="EN" style="outline: none !important;"> </span>A diagram was built of all the descendants of Martin and Maria Stuppy that matched DNA with our Stuby tester. A centimorgan (cM) is a unit of measure for DNA matches. The higher the centimorgan the closer the relationship. The centimorgans documented in the diagram were within range of the correct cousin match 21 cM to 66 cM. However, this range can have multiple cousin possibilities.</p><p class="ydpc1ca33dcMsoNormal" style="outline: none !important;"><span lang="EN" style="outline: none !important;">Andrew Stuby was the testers 2<span style="font-size: 12px; line-height: 0; outline: none !important; position: relative; top: -0.5em; vertical-align: baseline;">nd</span> Great Grandfather, so we are searching for the testers 3<span style="font-size: 12px; line-height: 0; outline: none !important; position: relative; top: -0.5em; vertical-align: baseline;">rd</span> Great Grandparents which is within the realm of using autosomal DNA.</span></p><div style="outline: none !important;"><span lang="EN" style="outline: none !important;">Further research is listed below and continued research of the DNA matches looking for other genetic networks will continue in a future project.</span></div><div data-setdir="false" dir="ltr" style="outline: none !important;"><div style="outline: none !important;"><h2 style="outline: none !important;"><span lang="EN" style="outline: none !important;">SUGGESTIONS FOR FUTURE RESEARCH</span></h2><p class="ydpc593ed96MsoNormal" style="outline: none !important;"><span style="font-weight: 700; outline: none !important;"><span lang="EN" style="outline: none !important;"> </span></span><span lang="EN" style="font-family: Symbol; outline: none !important;">·<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman"; font-size: 7pt; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; outline: none !important;"> </span></span><span lang="EN" style="outline: none !important;">Research the baptism records for each child of Martin and Maria Stuppy</span></p><p class="ydpc593ed96MsoListParagraphCxSpMiddle" style="outline: none !important;"><span lang="EN" style="font-family: Symbol; outline: none !important;">·<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman"; font-size: 7pt; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; outline: none !important;"> </span></span><span lang="EN" style="outline: none !important;">Research siblings Elizabeth Stuppy Hoffman and Ludwig Stuppy.</span></p><p class="ydpc593ed96MsoListParagraphCxSpMiddle" style="outline: none !important;"><span lang="EN" style="font-family: Symbol; outline: none !important;">·<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman"; font-size: 7pt; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; outline: none !important;"> </span></span><span lang="EN" style="outline: none !important;">Search for a marriage record for Andrew and Elizabeth Wagner Stuby at the courthouse and in the Catholic church.</span></p><p class="ydpc593ed96MsoListParagraphCxSpMiddle" style="outline: none !important;"><span lang="EN" style="font-family: Symbol; outline: none !important;">·<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman"; font-size: 7pt; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; outline: none !important;"> </span></span><span lang="EN" style="outline: none !important;">Research Jacob W. that Curtis Alexander Galttana is the brother of Mary Goltoia/Gaultney, Elvina

needed on this family unit. It was previously found that Linda H. had a genetic
network that lead back to Joseph and Mary Higginbotham and they had a daughter
named Nancy Elizabeth Higginbotham who married Alexander Gaultney in 1814. Is
Lear Gotney and Nancy Elizabeth Higginbotham Gaultney the same person? More
research is needed to make this determination. <o:p></o:p></span></p>

78,000 DNA matches on AncestryDNA and isolating DNA matches who also descend
from Curtis A. Galttana’s line could discover family connections for further
research. <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Mitochondrial DNA testing is not applicable since it is
passed from female to female. Y-DNA would be applicable since the Y chromosome
is passed from male to male if an unbroken male Galttana line existed. Currently
there are no known all male lines that descend from Curtis Galttana. <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><b>Shared Matches<o:p></o:p></b></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Proving genetic relationships through DNA involves
identifying the most recent common ancestor (MRCA) between two matches. Each
match would receive a segment of DNA from the MRCA. Working with thousands of
matches can be facilitated by sorting matches into genetic groups for analysis.
DNA matches could share more than one MRCA which could skew the amount of DNA
shared. This will be considered throughout the DNA analysis. <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span face="Calibri, sans-serif">I took
known Galttana matches and used Shared Matches on AncestryDNA to label other
matches who share DNA with Linda and this known Galttana match. I marked this
group with colored dots</span><span face="Calibri, sans-serif" style="font-size: 11pt;">.</span> I then took this genetic network of
matches and recorded the surnames on the ones that had trees. After many hours
of research and analysis I discovered all the matches shared the Higginbotham
surname. I then built a DNA tree with each match and built out their tree if
needed and discovered all matches MRCA were Joseph H. Higginbotham 1763-1840
and his wife Mary Molly Reed 1765-1823. This DNA tree shows 13 matches to Linda
who descend from Joseph and Mary Higginbotham. This means Linda is somehow
related to Joseph and Mary Higginbotham.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">I then did genealogy research to build out Joseph and Mary’s
descendancy tree. They had eight children, one daughter Nancy Higginbotham
married Alexander Gaultney. Alex and Nancy married on November 16, 1814 in
Kanawha County, Virginia.<a href="file:///C:/Users/knitt/OneDrive/Documents/Genealogy/DNA/Galttana/Galttana%20Blog%20research%20write%20up.docx#_ftn10" name="_ftnref10" style="mso-footnote-id: ftn10;" title=""><span class="MsoFootnoteReference"><span style="mso-special-character: footnote;"><!--[if !supportFootnotes]--><span class="MsoFootnoteReference"><span face=""Calibri",sans-serif" style="font-size: 11pt; line-height: 107%; mso-ansi-language: EN-US; mso-ascii-theme-font: minor-latin; mso-bidi-font-family: "Times New Roman"; mso-bidi-language: AR-SA; mso-bidi-theme-font: minor-bidi; mso-fareast-font-family: Calibri; mso-fareast-language: EN-US; mso-fareast-theme-font: minor-latin; mso-hansi-theme-font: minor-latin;">[10]</span></span><!--[endif]--></span></span></a>
More research is needed on Alexander and Nancy Gaultney. Some family trees on
ancestry show Nancy’s brother Samuel Higginbotham married Elizabeth Gaultney.
More research is needed on this couple also. <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">I added Alexander Gaultney and Nancy Higginbotham as test
parents of Curtis Galttana to see what ThruLines on AncestryDNA would show. No
ThruLines showed for Alexander and Nancy but Nancy’s parents Joseph and Mary
Higginbotham show 197 matches. ThruLines are created from matches trees so it
depends on the accuracy of each person’s tree. ThruLines is not always correct
so research and analysis has to be done to confirm the match. If no one has a
tree with Alexander Gaultney in it then no ThruLine matches would show. The
name is often misspelled also. Both reasons could account for no ThruLines for
Alexander and Nancy. But, the high number of matches for Joseph and Mary
Higginbotham point to a connection with this couple. <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><b>Hypothesis for next project:<o:p></o:p></b></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Are Alexander Gaultney and Nancy Higginbotham born June 5,
1792 in Breenbrier Co., Virginia (Now West Virginia) the parents of Curtis
Alexander Galttana? (Galttana is pronounced Gaultney) Alex and Nancy married

<p class="MsoNormal">The objective of this research was to identify more
information about John Henry Hefley, born 13 Sep. 1888 in Downs, Osborne Co.,
KS to Arthur William Hefley and Susanna Kaup Hefley. He married Grace Irene
Simpson on 20 Nov 1909 in Downs, KS. He died 7 Mar 1980 in Beloit, Mitchell
Co., KS and is buried in Downs, KS in the Downs cemetery.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">BACKGROUND<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">I had previously researched John Henry Hefley and documented
him in the 1895 and 1925 Kansas State Census and the 1900, 1910, 1920, 1930 and
1940 Census. I have his marriage record showing he married Grace I. Simpson on
November 20, 1909 in Downs, Kansas. He registered for the WWI and WWII drafts
but never served in the military. Of interesting note, his sister was the draft
registrar and signed his WWI draft card. <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">The Hefley farm was homesteaded by his father Arthur W.
Hefley in the 1870s. After John married in 1909, he and his wife continued to
live in the house on the farm. He is shown in each census as renting the house.
In 1920 and 1930 his parents and younger sister are living in the town of
Osborne and John and Grace continue to live on the farm till the mid 1940’s. In
1940 Johns mother had died and Arthur was again living in the farm house. I
need to check deeds to see who the farm and property went to in 1941 when his
father A.W. Hefley died. I wonder if it went to John since he had always lived
and farmed the property or if it went to all four kids. <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">In the mid 1940’s John auctioned off all the property on the
farm since none of his children wanted the farm. John and Grace moved to Downs.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">FINDINGS AND ANALYSIS<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">I chose to search the Osborne County Public Library digital
library archived newspapers. I knew local newspapers are the “Facebook” of
yesteryear. You can really learn a lot about a person’s life with what is
written about them in small local newspapers. I still have hours of research to
do as I have only documented the first three pages (30) for the search “John
Hefley” and there are 441 results. I still have to search other name variations
and other family so this will be a long-term search. I documented the
information as it was listed, (not in date order.) I have started a second
spreadsheet that I will enter the information in date order and list all
associated names in the articles. Again, this will be a long-term project. I
plan on entering all Hefley searches in this timeline chronologically. <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">CONCLUSION<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">The John Hefley family seemed to be connected to family,
friends and neighbors. Many articles talked of John helping his neighbors and
the family gathering for social occasions such as New Years, Thanksgiving and
Birthdays. I plan to continue documenting his life as depicted in the
newspapers. I have not yet found information about the birth of each of his
children. His first child died as an infant. I would think this information
would be included in the paper. If after I go through all 441 results, I don’t
find it I can search the specific dates for the information. <o:p></o:p></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 16.0pt; line-height: 106%;">We know
Adilla Hardee was born about 1879 as she is shown on the 1880 census as a one-year-old.
Her father is listed as a widow; therefore, we know his wife Juda Frances Lee
Hardee died between 1879 and 1880. I have searched for any records showing when
she died, but have not found any. I often wonder if she died in childbirth
which was common back then. Juda would have been about 41 when she gave birth.<o:p></o:p></span></p>

Hardee son<br /></span>John Perry Hardee</h2>
<p align="center" class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;"><o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">We first find John Perry Hardee at age three in the 1880
census of Johnson Co., Texas. That would make his birth year about 1877. He
lives with his widowed father William and nine siblings. John’s mother Juda
Frances Lee died the year before in 1879 so he never knew his mother. I can
only guess that his older siblings helped raise him. Also living in the
household are two older cousins. Joseph and Archie Favors are the children of Archibald
and Jane Lee Favors. Jane Lee was a younger sister of Juda Lee Hardee, John
Perry’s Mother.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">There is no 1890 census so we next find John Perry in the
1900 census still living in Johnson County in the city of Cleburne. He lives
with his cousin Joseph Favors. In the household is Joseph’s wife and two sons
and his mother-in-law. John Perry is 24 years old, is single and works as a
section hand. It is marked that he can read and write. <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">In 1904 there is an arrest record for J. P. Hardee. He pled
guilty for theft of a horse. He was sentenced Feb. 22, 1904 and was discharged
on Feb. 24, 1909. His records state he was 26 years old, 5’7 ½”, 136 lbs, dark
completion, gray eyes and dark hair. He had two scars on the back of his neck,
a scar in the pit of his back and two scars on the right side of his rump. He
wore size 5 shoe, was married, used tobacco, had no education, was born 1879 in
Texas. I am unsure of who he was married to but it may have been Lula Walker. <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">In 1910 he has moved to Delaware Township in Caddo County,
Oklahoma and lives next door to his older sister Annie Mayfield and her husband
and son. He is listed as age 30, widowed, born in Missouri and parents born in
Ohio. He is a general farmer and can read and write and rents his farm. When I
look at the census, the family below him has the head of household from
Missouri and parents from Ohio, so I think this is an error on the census
takers part. John Perry was born in Texas and parents were born in Alabama. <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">At some time after 1910 he returns to Texas and married
Gertrude Bodine on June 1, 1914 in Ellis Co., Texas. They are listed in the
1915 city directory for Cleburne, Texas in Johnson Co. They live at 818 N.
Wilhite and he is a laborer.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">On June 1, 1916 they have their first son, John Thomas Hardee
in Cleburne. Their second son dies hours after birth on Dec. 2, 1917 in
Cleburne.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">In 1918 John Perry registers for the World War I
registration draft. He stated he is 39 years old and was born March 19, 1879.
The 1880 census shows he was 3 which would make his birth year 1877. He works
for the rail road in Cleburne and Gertrude Hardee is his nearest relative. He
says he has blue eyes and black hair. I do not believe he ever served in the
military.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">John Perry and Gertrude have two more sons: Floyd Hardee
born Feb. 12, 1920 and Zibe Brooks Hardee born March 28, 1921.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">On July 25, 1923 this notice appeared in the <b>Fort Worth
Star-Telegram</b> on page 17:<o:p></o:p></p>

<p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal; margin-bottom: 0in; mso-layout-grid-align: none; text-autospace: none;">In December of 1924 John Perry pleas guilty of “Transporting
intoxicating liquor. Possessing intoxication liquor for purpose of sale.” He is
discharged August 9, 1925. His arrest record states, he is 45 years old, 5’ 6
7/8” has hazel eyes and brown hair, size 5 shoe size, married, uses tobacco,
illiterate and cannot read or write, no schooling, born in 1879 in Texas and
parents born in Alabama. Employed at rail road.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal; margin-bottom: 0in; mso-layout-grid-align: none; text-autospace: none;">Their only daughter Norma Hardee was born December

<p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal; margin-bottom: 0in; mso-layout-grid-align: none; text-autospace: none;">The family is then found on the 1930 census living in
Rush Springs, Grady Co., Oklahoma. John Perry is listed as 50 years old, born
in Oklahoma and parents born in Kentucky. We know this is incorrect, I wonder
if he did not trust the government and gave incorrect information or they
weren’t home that day and a neighbor gave the information. We will never know.</p><p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal; margin-bottom: 0in; mso-layout-grid-align: none; text-autospace: none;"><o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal; margin-bottom: 0in; mso-layout-grid-align: none; text-autospace: none;">He rents his house and works as a farm laborer. Also
in the household are his wife Gertrude and children J.T (John Thomas) age 13,

<p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal; margin-bottom: 0in; mso-layout-grid-align: none; text-autospace: none;"><o:p> </o:p>For a third time John Perry is arrested in October of
1931. His residence is listed as Cleburne, Johnson Co., Texas. He pleads guilty
to “possessing intoxicating liquor and maintaining a public nuisance” for a
term of one year. He is discharged on June 30, 1932.</p><p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal; margin-bottom: 0in; mso-layout-grid-align: none; text-autospace: none;"><o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal; margin-bottom: 0in; mso-layout-grid-align: none; text-autospace: none;"><o:p> </o:p>I am unable to find John Perry in the 1940 census or
his living three children. However, I did find a Gertrude Hardee listed in the
1940 census living in Norman, Cleveland County, Oklahoma in the Central
Oklahoma State Hospital. She is listed as 44 years old, born in Texas and
married. I do not know why she was institutionalized here.</p><p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal; margin-bottom: 0in; mso-layout-grid-align: none; text-autospace: none;"><o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal; margin-bottom: 0in; mso-layout-grid-align: none; text-autospace: none;"><o:p> </o:p>In 1942 John Perry applied for Social Security and

a three times convict. The 66-year-old man who told Cobb that Hardee came to
the Alice Street address about 4 am Sunday and started making coffee. He said
Hardee walked to his bedside a blackjack in hand and that he was slugged
several times. He then obtained a revolver from beneath his pillow and shot
Hardee through the chest. Justice Hurley returned an inquest verdict of murder
and said Hardee apparently died instantly. The older man was booked at city

For me, it's time to decide what I want to accomplish this year in my genealogy. I have many things on my list, but I need to pick the most important ones and then make a plan to get them done.</div><div><br /></div><div>Last year I completed my Research Like a Pro eCourse and finished my research project for Ziba Hardee. I did not answer my objective of finding his parents, but I made a timeline, a chronology report, a few locality guides, made a research plan, conducted research and wrote a research report that included further researching ideas. When I want to pick this up again everything will be there and I will know exactly where I left off.</div><div><br /></div><div>I have spent a lot of time researching Ziba Hardee and many of his descendants. I have written many Hardee bios that I have posted on my blog and on Facebook. I still have a few children of William Thomas Hardee to write about.</div><div><br /></div><div>But, looking at my tree I have realized I have not been researching all my other lines and some are really lacking. So, I need to develop a plan of how I want to accomplish that. </div><div><br /></div><div>I continue to further my education by watching webinars and reading books. I watched a great webinar by Diahan Southard about DNA. I had heard about this process before but she explained it again and this time I was ready to try it out. </div><div><br /></div><div>NEW RESEARCH</div><div>My new research project will be to find the parents of my maternal 2nd Great Grandfather <b>Curtis Alexander Galttana.</b> This is a very unusual name and it is pronounced Galtney. I went to my mothers DNA matches on Ancestry and found a few matches that I know our most recent common ancestor (MRCA) is <b>Curtis and Synthia Alverson Galttana</b>. I pulled up that known match and then used the shared matches tool to find all the matches that match my mother and the known match that has MRCA as Curtis and Synthia. This will pull up a list of people who also match through Curtis or Cynthia. I then added a colored dot to each of these matches. I continued this process for each known match.</div><div><br /></div><div>But, some of these matches could be related through<b> Synthia Alverson</b> and I only wanted the matches that are related through the Galttana side. So then I found known matches that have the MRCA of Synthia's parents, <b>H.B. and Sarah Alverson</b>. I did the same process and marked all these matches a different dot color to each of these matches. </div><div><br /></div><div>I could then tell if the match had two dots they matched through the Alverson line. If the match had one dot they matched through the Galttana line. I looked at each match with one dot and looked for ones with trees. I make a spreadsheet and listed them all and added the surnames, looking for ones that occurred in more that one tree. </div><div><br /></div><div>Some of the matches did not have much of a tree so I built some of them out. After doing this I found seven trees that had <b>Herman and Maria Knoch</b>. Maria's maiden name was listed as <b>Goltoia</b> and she was born in Ohio in 1823. Curtis may have been born in Ohio in 1827 so could this be a sister? I found Maria in the 1850 census and living in the household are her husband and four children with her married last name. <p class="MsoNormal">William and Juda moved from Alabama to Texas around 1870.
Robert Lee Hardee was their first child who was born in Texas on November 19,

1893 in Erath Co., Texas. <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">I found court records dated January 23, 1894 that show the
State of Texas VS R. L. Hardee, but I do not know what the case was about. It
was dismissed due to “insufficiency of the evidence” and he was immediately
discharged. <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Their fist son, Clifford Thomas Hardee was born September

<p class="MsoNormal">In 1900 Robert is working as a day laborer and reports on
the census that he can read and write.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Daughter Irene Hardee is born September 5, 1903 but dies
about 1904 and Mollie Frances Hardee is born September 25, 1905 in Johnson Co.,

<p class="MsoNormal">In 1910 the family lives at 401 Elmo and his older brother
Zibe also lives with the family. They both work at the railroad. Robert works
as a machinist at the railroad shop and Zibe is a helper in the roundhouse.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Their last child, a daughter, Robert Lynn Hardee, was born
on September 2, 1911 in Johnson Co. Texas<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">When Robert registered for the WWI draft in 1918, he stated
he lived at 1005 N. Border in Cleburne, Texas. He was 45 years old and worked
as a truck repairer at G C & S F Railyard. He was medium height and build
and had dark hair and blue eyes.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">At age 60, Robert and Josie along with daughter Robbie are
living in Tarrant Co. Texas in 1930. Robert is farming on a rented farm and
they do not own a radio. <o:p></o:p></p>

<p align="center" class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 107%;">Pinkney Edward Hardee</span><o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Pinkney Edward Hardee was born in Alabama on December 22,
1869 but traveled as an infant with his parents and eight siblings overland 600
miles from Coosa County, Alabama to Van Zandt County, Texas. There the family
is enumerated on the census on September 16, 1870. <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">By 1880 his mother has passed away and the family is living
in Johnson County, Texas. Pinkney is nine years old and also living in the
household are his two cousins, Joseph and Archie Favors. <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">On November 13, 1893 he married Camelia Alice “Allie” Carter
in Ellis County, Texas. <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">In 1900 Pinkney and Allie live in Alvarado, Texas with their
three children and his older single sister Lucinda “Cindy” who probably helped
raise him after their mother died. Pinkney works for the railroad as a section
hand and can read and write.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Pinkney and Allie’s three children, all born in Alvarado,
Texas are: <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Maude Elaine Hardee born November 11, 1894, died June 29,
1986 in MO. Married Herrick L. Gaby.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Claude G. Hardee born December 21, 1896, died April 5, 1953
in Dallas, Texas. Married “Dutch” Ethel Jones.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Pearl Olene Hardee born May 6, 1899, died May 21, 1975 CA.
Married Ralph Drummond.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Allie died July 26, 1902 and Pinkney married Martha Jane Ray
Flatt sometime around 1903 as they are listed together on the 1910 census still
in Johnson Co., Texas. They have three children and Pinkney’s three children
from his first marriage are living with them along with a 20-year-old hired
hand named Tom Carter. Pinkney is now listed as a farmer who rents his farm.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Pinkney and Martha’s three children are:<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Marvin Ray Hardee born June 23, 1905, may have married Thelma
Nash. Married Rose Kean. <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Jewel Edna Hardee born February 17, 1906, married a Barbour.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Pinkney Thomas Hardee born June 8, 1909, married (1) Doris
Ireland (2) Nellie Lee Prather.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">In 1920 Pinkney, Martha and their three children now live in
Ellis County, Texas.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>He is a farmer and owns
his farm with a mortgage. <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Martha dies July 23, 1929 and I am unable to locate Pinkney
in the 1930 census. But, on October 26, 1933 Pink Hardee is sentenced to two years
in prison for V.D.L. (Violation of drug law) He went to jail on May 24, 1934.
In the notes it stated he received a “Cond Pardon 9-8-34.”<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Pinkney Edward Hardee died April 24, 1935 in Cleburne,
Johnson Co., Texas of stomach cancer. He was 65 years old. My guess is if he
had stomach cancer, he was self-medicating for pain and that is the reason he violated
the drug law. <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">He is buried in the Venus Cemetery in Venus, Johnson Co.,
Texas. Written on his stone is: “Faithful to his trust.” The person who posted
the photo of the stone on FindAGrave states: “This stone is hidden in between
some evergreen trees that have grown up around it.”<o:p></o:p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi9ARDan8E_9mtQg1i0MajRQ26Y_AsIClbFfYbe-K7vQoAJMScCpuVVFFq3mIcdtn3OFZQqIEHcC9lbAcAMeUd3x9u3bYMml-1pwmeNXf_DZVlDciL5JhYfTO2Cy7rz0XkSN9iP7ogyfYE/s290/Hardee_Pinkney+Edward+crop+with+hat.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="290" data-original-width="177" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi9ARDan8E_9mtQg1i0MajRQ26Y_AsIClbFfYbe-K7vQoAJMScCpuVVFFq3mIcdtn3OFZQqIEHcC9lbAcAMeUd3x9u3bYMml-1pwmeNXf_DZVlDciL5JhYfTO2Cy7rz0XkSN9iP7ogyfYE/s0/Hardee_Pinkney+Edward+crop+with+hat.jpg" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjT9aO53b8LePNMfsBBrXvLwIQgRZdODrf64zF6in8EpbN1C6OWdvXqQdzvLcuJfLvG_qSohctXAA8QxfZrTbrN4eHPKPnnhxIx2T97IEFDD3BLzyMVjbtrsgVJ-5cHDLyIBAtmBEjQQCo/s285/Hardee_Pinkney+Edward+crop+without+hat.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="285" data-original-width="222" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjT9aO53b8LePNMfsBBrXvLwIQgRZdODrf64zF6in8EpbN1C6OWdvXqQdzvLcuJfLvG_qSohctXAA8QxfZrTbrN4eHPKPnnhxIx2T97IEFDD3BLzyMVjbtrsgVJ-5cHDLyIBAtmBEjQQCo/s0/Hardee_Pinkney+Edward+crop+without+hat.jpg" /></a></div><br /><p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;"><br /></p>Tina Telescahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15951533592858222405noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5596718975371144000.post-64401860530622845082020-11-07T09:00:00.002-05:002020-11-07T09:00:00.638-05:00<p> </p><h3 style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 107%;">William Thomas and Juda Frances Lee

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 107%;">Malinda
Caroline Hardee shows up under many different names in the census, Malinda,
Lorinda, Lena, Lynn, and Caroline. She was born August 25, 1868 in Coosa
County, Alabama. Her death certificate says she was born in Birmingham, Alabama
but I do not believe this was correct as all the census and tax records show
they lived in Coosa County, Alabama. She was the eighth child of William and
Juda Hardee. <o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 107%;">Between 1869

By 1880 the family had settled in Johnson County, Texas. <o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 107%;">On April 28,

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 107%;">I do not
know what happened to William Parker, but Malinda married James Thomas Adams on

are living in Cleburne, Texas. <o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 107%;">They live

<p align="center" class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;"><b><span style="font-size: 16pt; line-height: 107%;">Sabitha Annie Hardee<o:p></o:p></span></b></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">In 1865 William Thomas Hardee was serving in the Civil war.
He was captured near Petersburg on March 25 and became a prisoner of war on
March 27, 1865. When Sabitha was born on April 12, 1865 her father was a prisoner
of war at Point Lookout, Maryland. William was released on June 13, 1865.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Her mother Juda Frances was alone at the family homestead in
Coosa County, Alabama with six other children ranging in ages of 3-9 years old.
I can only hope she had family around to help her, because I couldn’t image running
a farm and raising seven children by myself.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Between 1869 and 1870 the family of 11 moved from Coosa County,
Alabama to Van Zandt County, Texas. Sabitha would have been about five years
old when they took the 600-mile journey overland. <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">In 1870 the family is living next door to Williams widowed
mother, Tabitha. I have often wondered if this was the reason they moved to
Texas. <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">On August 27, 1884 Sabitha marries James Rufus Mayfield in
Parker County, Texas. They live in Wise County, Texas according to the 1900
census and she has had five children but only two are living. There children
are Annie born Dec 1889 and Josie born March 1892.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">They move to Delaware Township, Caddo County, Oklahoma and
are listed on the 1910 census as renting a farm. Their son James Booth born November
1900 is the only child in the household. Her widowed younger brother, John
Perry Hardee lives with them.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">In 1920 they are still farming in Caddo County, Oklahoma and
their son and his wife, Ila live with them.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Their daughter Josie Mayfield Anderson dies June 11, 1920 at
the age of 28. In the 1930 census their 21-year-old granddaughter, Anna E.
Anderson lives with them. <span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>I would guess
they took her in to raise her as her father died in 1925. Also, in the
household is Sabitha’s older widowed sister Sarah Jane “Sally” Pully. They are
all now living in Chickasha, Grady County, Oklahoma. <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">James Mayfield dies in 1937 and in 1940 Sabitha listed as
Anna is living with her daughter and son-in-law Annie and Casper Meetings in
Ninnekah, Grady County, Oklahoma. <span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Also
living in the household is Sabitha’s brother-in-law Fred Taylor. Fred had been

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: "Arial",sans-serif; font-size: 13.0pt; line-height: 107%;">Not much is known about William R. Hardee. He was born
about 1863 in Alabama. He moved with the family about 1869/1870 to Van Zandt
County, Texas and is listed in the 1880 census living with his father and
siblings in Johnson Co., Texas. He is 15 and is not attending school and cannot

Hardee </h3><p align="center" class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;"><o:p></o:p></p>
<p align="center" class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;"><o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Lucinda J. Hardee was the fifth child of William and Juda
Hardee. Her name in records is listed as Lucinda or Cindy/Cinda/Sindy. She was born
April of 1861 or 1862 in Alabama. I believe about 1869 or 1870 her family
traveled to Van Zandt County, Texas when she was about 7 or 8 years old.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">The family is found in 1870 living in Van Zandt Co., Texas
and in 1880 the family is living in Johnson Co., Texas. Lucinda is listed in both
as single and she is 27 years old in 1880.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">In 1900, both her parents have died and she is living as a
single female with her younger brother Pink Hardee and his wife and children in
Alvarado, Johnson Co., Texas. She is listed as Sindy and it lists her birth date
as April 1861 making her 39 years old. This conflicts with the 1870 census
which shows her as eight years old and since the census was taken after April,
I would guess 1862 is the correct year. However, her younger brother was born
January 19, 1860 so it is feasible she could have been born in April of 1861. <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">On June 12, 1904 Lucinda married S. Fred Taylor in Johnson
Co., Texas. In 1910 Lucinda and Fred are living in Parker County, Texas and
Fred is a farmer. This is Fred’s second marriage and they have a seven-year-old
girl living with them who is from his first marriage named Hatty Taylor. <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">By 1920 they have moved to Rush Springs, Grady Co., Oklahoma
and all three are listed together. Fred is still farming and has a mortgage on
the land he owns.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">In 1920 just Fred and Lucinda are listed on the census in
Rush Springs, Oklahoma and they have a 29 year old servant living with them. <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">I have no death information for Lucinda. Her husband Fred is
listed in the 1940 census as a widow so I would assume she died between 1930-1940.
In 1940 Fred is living with his wife’s niece and her husband, Casper and Annie Mayfield
Meetings. Also living in the household is the mother of Annie, and Lucinda’s
widowed sister, Anna Mayfield. They live in Ninnekah, Grady Co., Oklahoma.<o:p></o:p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg2L18DgFDp6k9LAx-FGJts0PesmhyNdQR9t_v1UeqmB2qKpp3FF9aGoqzVWkJFIQ054N1TK7bK990296ePFhEsfLkolBjtBypIyEDFyW8ikjgHE6kiBDb9YxC0JKn83xjs6SHIlc6vi6U/s573/Hardee_Daughters+of+W.T.+%2526+Juda+Hardee.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="573" data-original-width="346" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg2L18DgFDp6k9LAx-FGJts0PesmhyNdQR9t_v1UeqmB2qKpp3FF9aGoqzVWkJFIQ054N1TK7bK990296ePFhEsfLkolBjtBypIyEDFyW8ikjgHE6kiBDb9YxC0JKn83xjs6SHIlc6vi6U/s320/Hardee_Daughters+of+W.T.+%2526+Juda+Hardee.jpg" /></a></div><br /><p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;"><br /></p>Tina Telescahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15951533592858222405noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5596718975371144000.post-73359349199775033042020-10-03T07:00:00.001-04:002020-10-03T07:00:11.271-04:00<h3 style="text-align: center;"> <span style="text-align: center;">William Thomas and Juda Frances Lee Hardee’s son</span></h3><h3 style="text-align: center;">Samuel Burel Hardee</h3><p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;"><o:p></o:p></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;"><o:p></o:p></p><p class="MsoNormal">Next in the series of William and Juda Hardee’s children is my Great Grandfather Samuel Burel Hardee. He was born Jan. 26, 1860 in Alabama. He was most likely born in Coosa County, Alabama as he was listed as ½ years old in the 1860 census. Sam would have been two years old when his father, William Hardee went away to join the Civil war and five when he returned.<o:p></o:p></p><p class="MsoNormal">Around 1869 they moved to Van Zandt County, Texas and lived near William Hardee’s widowed mother Tabitha Hardee.<o:p></o:p></p><p class="MsoNormal">In 1880 Sam would have been 20 years old but I cannot locate him in the census. His widowed father and siblings were now living in Johnson Co., Texas.<o:p></o:p></p><p class="MsoNormal">When Sam was 26 years old, he married 16-year-old Georgiana Clarissa Ransom on August 22, 1886 in Parker County, Texas. They are listed as S.B Hardee and Miss Clersy Ransom on the marriage record and Mr. S. B. Hardee and Miss G.A.C. Ransom on the marriage certificate. Sam is listed from Johnson Co. and Georgia is listed from Parker County and they married at her home.<o:p></o:p></p><blockquote style="border: none; margin: 0px 0px 0px 40px; padding: 0px;"><p class="MsoNormal"></p><blockquote style="border: none; margin: 0px 0px 0px 40px; padding: 0px;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiiQ41Bqvz2E0FAj7WZ3Q-xnIq75xM6bAw7laoyulxxh1Mmk8WfD6NB3YHILhB0-X6B_IegK6Qg0mP_jjgSEOpJC3x2R6DnN02xisu81BcGuIIqKuFMnoxfyFLYD0ZgZkzO-64yXtWZvB4/s2048/Hardee_Samuel+B+1886+Marriage+record.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1862" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiiQ41Bqvz2E0FAj7WZ3Q-xnIq75xM6bAw7laoyulxxh1Mmk8WfD6NB3YHILhB0-X6B_IegK6Qg0mP_jjgSEOpJC3x2R6DnN02xisu81BcGuIIqKuFMnoxfyFLYD0ZgZkzO-64yXtWZvB4/s320/Hardee_Samuel+B+1886+Marriage+record.JPG" /></a></div><p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;"><span style="text-align: left;"></span></p></blockquote><p></p></blockquote><p class="MsoNormal"></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;"><span style="text-align: left;">Their first child William Russell Hardee was born April 3, 1888 in Wise County, Texas. The children are William, Samuel, Ada, Ida, Edward T. and Lillie V.<o:p></o:p></p><p class="MsoNormal">My Grandfather, Joseph Abraham Hardee is born January 6, 1902 in Decatur, Wise Co., Texas. On November 27, 1903 a deed is recorded showing S. B. Hardee and G.A.C. Hardee wife of S.B. This census shows Sam can read and write and that he is a farmer working on his own account and rents the farm. He has been married 23 years and his wife listed as Georgia A. has eight children born and living. (At age 40 she is pregnant with her last child, Edna who will be born in less than three weeks.) Also living in the household is 16-year-old daughter Ida Hardee and her 27-year-old husband, John Barber. They have been married one year.<o:p></o:p></p><p class="MsoNormal">In 1920 the family is listed as living in Rhome, Wise Co., Texas and the household consists of Sam and Georgia A., Joe, Mary, Edna Mae and Sam’s mother in law Marguaretta Ransom. The next family listed is his oldest son William R. Hardee and his wife and four children. This census shows Sam is a laborer on a farm he rents and cannot read and write.<o:p></o:p></p><p class="MsoNormal">Sam Hardee died June 28, 1929. His obituary was listed in the Decatur News on July 5, 1929 front page:<o:p></o:p></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal; margin-bottom: 0in;">S.B. Sam was 69 years old when he died but his age is incorrectly listed as 60. son<br /></span><span style="font-size: 16.0pt; line-height: 107%;">Zibe Brooks Hardee</span></h3>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 107%;">Zibe Brooks
Hardee was the third child of William and Juda Hardee. Zibe was born Sept. 4,
1859 in Alabama. He never married and is always listed in the census as single.
<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 107%;">He is first
listed with his family in the 1860 Alabama census as a one year old. His
brother Pinkney Hardee was born Dec. 22, 1869 in Alabama so the family must
have traveled to Van Zandt County, Texas sometime between then and Sept. 16,
1870 when the family is listed in the census and he is listed as 11 years old. <o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 107%;">In 1880 he
is living in Johnson Co., Texas as a single 21-year-old farm laborer with
Abraham Arnold and his family. I don’t know of any connection with the Arnold
family. But, Zibe’s father and siblings are living one family away, so they are
nearby.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 107%;">By 1900 both
his parents have died. He is still living in Johnson County, Texas and is
listed as a boarder in the household of the Killough family. He is listed as
Zide Hardie age 38 and working as farm laborer.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 107%;">In 1910 Zibe
is living with his younger brother Robert Hardee and his family. They live at
401 Elmo St. in Cleburne, Johnson Co., Texas. His name is listed as Side and he
is 46 years old. His brother works as a machinist at the railroad shop. Zibe
works as a hostler helper at the railroad roundhouse. Looking at a map they
lived near the railroad yard and almost everyone listed on this census page
works for the railroad.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 107%;">I did not
know what a hostler was so I looked it up. A hostler is the person who receives
the locomotive as they come in and cares for them in the roundhouse. They have
them clean and ready for departure when needed. <o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 107%;">Robert,
Clifford T. and Zibe B. are all listed in the 1915 Cleburne City Directory living
at 401 Elmo. Clifford T. is Robert’s son. Clifford is listed as a laborer,
Robert as a truckman at G C & S F railroad and Zibe is a helper at G C
& S F railroad. <o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 107%;">He still
lives with his brother in 1920. Zibe is listed as 62 years old and a hostler at
the roundhouse. <o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 107%;">He lives
with his younger widowed sister Caroline in 1930. They live on 613 Royal St. in
Cleburne, Texas, still near the railroad yard. Even though it’s been 10 years
since the 1920 census he has only aged five years as he is listed as 67 years
old but still works as a hostler helper in the shops. <o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 107%;">Zibe Brooks
Hardee died April 15, 1932 of influenzas and pneumonia. He was still living with
his sister Caroline when he died. The informant on the death certificate was
C.W. Hardee which I assume is Creed Westly Hardee, Zibe’s nephew from his
brother Robert. C.W. Hardee gave his birthdate as Sept. 4, 1874. The year is
incorrect as Zibe is listed in the 1860 census as one years old. He is buried in the Cleburne Memorial Cemetery

Ziba and Tabitha Hardee daughter,<br />Missouri Hardee</h3>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Missouri Hardee was born March 14, 1854 in Alabama. Some people have Missouri Hardee listed as William and Juda's first child. I believe she is Ziba and Tabitha's last child. (William Hardee is a son of Ziba and Tabitha.)</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
No census record has been found for Ziba and Tabitha for 1860. However, I do have the 1860 census for William and Juda and Missouri is not listed in their household. If she was their first child she would be in their household.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Also, Missouri was born in March of 1854 and William and Juda were married in November of 1854. No way during that time would a couple have a child out of wedlock. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Ziba and family moved to Texas around 1861 and Ziba died in 1862. Missouri would have only been eight. In the 1870 census Tabitha listed as Sybatha is listed as head of household and has her son Pinkney Hardy age 18 and a female listed as Mosaria Hardy. I believe this is Missouri and she is the last child of Ziba. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
William and Juda lived next door to his mother and siblings in 1870, I believe they would have been a big part of Missouri's life. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
When Missouri died her daughter in law listed the father as William Hardee and the mother as Don't know. I think this is were the confusion of who her parents are came from. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Missouri Hardee married John Miles Tomlinson on February 5, 1872 in Van Zandt County, Texas. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
In 1880 they are living in McMullen County, Texas.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
I don't find them again till 1920 and they are living with their son James "Jim" Tomlinson and family in Eddy County, New Mexico.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
John Tomlinson died July 3, 1920 and is buried in Artesia, Eddy Co., NM.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
In 1940 Missouri is living with her son James Tomlinson and family in Coconina County, Arizona. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Missouri died Septemeber 8, 1947 in Flagstaff, Coconino Co., AZ. She is buried in Artisia, NM with her husband.</div>

Ziba and Tabitha Hardee son,<br />Pinkney Taylor Hardee</h3>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
Ziba and Tabitha's tenth child was Pinkney Taylor Hardee. I've also seen it spelled Pinckney, believe he was called Pink for short. Pink was born August 23, 1851 in Talladega Springs, Coosa County, Alabama.<br />
He traveled with his family and siblings about 1861 to Van Zandt County, Texas.<div><br />
On July 28, 1872 he married Mary E. Bryant in Van Zandt County, Texas. Mary had previously been married and brought two children into the marriage.<div><br />
In 1880 he is still living in Van Zandt Count, Texas with his wife and children and his widowed mother, listed as Sabitha is also living with the family.</div><div><br /><div style="text-align: left;">
Pink and Mary Hardee had ten children: Sarah Jane Hardee born Jun 4, 1873 died Jun 8, 1873; P. S. <h3 style="text-align: center;">
Sabitha Caroline/Carolina Hardee</h3>
<div>
<div>
Ziba and Tabitha's eighth child was Sabitha Caroline/Carolina Hardee. She was born August 3, 1845 in Talladega Springs, Coosa County, Alabama.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
She was about 16 when she traveled with her family by ox cart train to Van Zandt County, Texas. </div>
<div>
On February 15, 1866 she married Littleton Davidson in Van Zandt County, Texas.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
They had seven children but three died young. I do not know the names of two of the deceased children: Lou Emma Davidson born November 28, 1866 and died November 13, 1946. Verner Littleton Davidson born December 15, 1871 and died May 3, 1930. William Asbury Davidson born April 27, 1879 died March 13, 1957. Lenora Eugene Davidson born November 18, 1880 and died September 15, 1959. Ophelia I. Davidson born July 4, 1885 and died November 2, 1886.</div>
<div>
All their children were born and died in Van Zandt County, Texas. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Littleton Davidson was a farmer and he built and ran one of the first cotton gins in the area. He moved a few miles and built a second cotton gin, grist mill and a general store. Littleton was appointed postmaster of Primrose, Texas in 1902 and ran the post office from his general store until 1910.</div><div><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEijoFqZqiICdtW5ONJVNybdEkyN3YQezXjkLXPZ4K6_VnyZkpX11XRNMHKRQvXxOlvsCovkv8yqv_apDXhmBEQrHaUrDMdSKxZ7Nazxogwn82oeO4457dJXNXcpGEdX8CFO0EEejxR3dQY/s500/Davidson_Caroline+Hardee+AN.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="350" data-original-width="500" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEijoFqZqiICdtW5ONJVNybdEkyN3YQezXjkLXPZ4K6_VnyZkpX11XRNMHKRQvXxOlvsCovkv8yqv_apDXhmBEQrHaUrDMdSKxZ7Nazxogwn82oeO4457dJXNXcpGEdX8CFO0EEejxR3dQY/s0/Davidson_Caroline+Hardee+AN.jpg" /></a></div><div><br /></div>

Ziba and Tabitha Hardee son,<br />Thomas Hardee</h3>
<br />
Ziba and Tabitha's seventh child was Thomas Hardee. He was born about 1844 in Alabama.<br />
Thomas is listed in the 1850 census with his family and is 6 years old. I have not been able to find the family in the 1860 census and I have no other records on Thomas Hardee.<br />
I have seen some people say he was killed in the Civil War, but I have not found any record that I think may be this Thomas.<br />
I did search the Texas unit that Samuel and Bryant enlisted in but his name is not listed.<br />
Below is Thomas as listed in the only record of him, the 1850 U.S. Federal Census of Alabama.<br />
<br />

Hardee<h3 style="text-align: center;">
Ziba and Tabitha Hardee son,<br /><span style="background-color: white;">Bryant S. Hardee</span></h3>
<div>
<div>
<span style="background-color: white; font-size: 15px; white-space: pre-wrap;">Bryant S. Hardee is the sixth child of Ziba and Tabitha Hardee. Bryant was born about September 1842 in Coosa County, Alabama. </span></div>
<div>
<span style="background-color: white; font-size: 15px; white-space: pre-wrap;">I believe Bryant traveled with his family to Texas around 1861. In the 1861 tax records for Van Zandt Count, Texas Bryant is listed next to his father Ziba owning 40 acres worth $120. He paid .15 tax. In 1862 Bryant owns 120 acres.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="background-color: white; font-size: 15px; white-space: pre-wrap;">Bryant Hardee enlisted in the civil war on September 16, 1861 at Quitman Texas. He served in Company H of the 10th Regiment of Confederate States Calvary. (This is the same unit Samuel Hardee served in, which makes a good argument that this Samuel Hardee is his brother.)</span></div>
<div>
<span style="background-color: white; font-size: 15px; white-space: pre-wrap;">Bryant received a Certificate of Disability on April 30, 1863 that reads:</span></div>
<div>
<span style="background-color: white; font-size: 15px; white-space: pre-wrap;">...he was born in Coosa County in the State of Alabama is Twenty Two years of age, five feet eight inches high, dark complexion, dark eyes, dark hair and by occupation when enlisted a Farmer. During the last two months said soldier has been unfit for duty 60 day.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="background-color: white; font-size: 15px; white-space: pre-wrap;">Station: Shelbyville, Tenn</span></div>
<div>
<span style="background-color: white; font-size: 15px; white-space: pre-wrap;">Date: April 30, 1863</span></div>
<div>
<span style="background-color: white; font-size: 15px; white-space: pre-wrap;">I certify that I have carefully examined the said B. S. Hardee of Captain T. W. Summers Company, and find him incapable of performing the duties of a soldier because of gunshot wound received through the thigh at the battle of Richmond, KY. Aug. 30, 1862, fracturing the femur completely. I further declare my belief that said soldier will not be able to resume his duties in a less period than twelve months.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="background-color: white; font-size: 15px; white-space: pre-wrap;">A.B. Hint Surgeon</span></div>
<div>
<span style="background-color: white; font-size: 15px; white-space: pre-wrap;">Place where the soldier desires to be address may be here added. Town Edom County Van Zandt State Texas.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="background-color: white; font-size: 15px; white-space: pre-wrap;">He was discharged July 30, 1863 by order of Gen. Bragg.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="background-color: white; font-size: 15px; white-space: pre-wrap;">Sometime after the civil war Bryant to Monroe County, Alabama where his two older half brothers lived. </span></div>
<div>
<span style="background-color: white; font-size: 15px; white-space: pre-wrap;">In 1866 he joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and attended the Lone Star, Alabama Branch.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="background-color: white; font-size: 15px; white-space: pre-wrap;">On June 2, 1964 he married Mary Jane Patrick who was 12 years older then him. </span></div>
<div>
<span style="background-color: white; font-size: 15px; white-space: pre-wrap;">In the 1870 census Bryant lived next door to his half brother John Hardee. (Who some say also joined the LDS church.) Bryant and Jane had a five year old daughter and they also had another female named Mary who was 13 years old and listed as black and a laborer.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="background-color: white; font-size: 15px; white-space: pre-wrap;">In 1880 Bryant and wife Jane have two girls, Mary P. and Elvira M. Hardee. Brother John still lives close.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="background-color: white; font-size: 15px; white-space: pre-wrap;">M. Jane Hardee died in 1894 and Bryant married Virginia Mason on March 22, 1894.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="background-color: white; font-size: 15px; white-space: pre-wrap;">In the 1900 census Bryant and wife Virginia have two daughters listed as Emma T. and Sugar.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="background-color: white; font-size: 15px; white-space: pre-wrap;">In the 1910 census Bryant and wife Virginia have three daughters, Emma F., Willie Mae (Sugar) and Maggie I.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="background-color: white; font-size: 15px; white-space: pre-wrap;">In the 1920 census only Willie Mae and Maggie are living in the household with their parents. </span></div>
<div>
<span style="background-color: white; font-size: 15px; white-space: pre-wrap;">Bryant Hardee died October 1, 1922 in Monroe County, Alabama. He was 80 years old.</span></div>
